The Effectiveness Of Weight Loss Surgery
An article published by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) highlights a study regarding the increasing efficacy of various bariatric surgeries over the years – including gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding, and sleeve gastrectomy. According to a co-author of the study, research data continues to suggest that bariatric surgery is not only an effective weight loss solution, but it can also be considered an effective treatment for obesity-related conditions, such as type II diabetes, hypertension, and more.
At the New Life Center for Bariatric Surgery, I have witnessed the positive effects of bariatric surgery in many of my own patients. In addition to successful weight loss, just one year after bariatric surgery I commonly see type II diabetes resolve in over 90% of patients, hypertension resolve in 75% of patients, and obstructive sleep apnea resolve in over 70% of patients. My patients are measurably healthier one year after surgery.
That being said, I believe it’s important for prospective patients to understand that while there are many weight loss options available, each provides differing degrees of weight loss with benefits and risks unique to that specific procedure – that is to say, they are not all the same. As a bariatric surgeon with over 25 years of experience, it is my role to help you determine which weight loss procedure has the greatest potential to most effectively achieve your goals.
