Support Partners are former patients of our weight loss surgeons who want to help other patients as they embark on their journey to a New Life. The Support Partner may talk to a patient considering weight loss surgery or help facilitate assistance for any questions or needs the patient has after discharge. Sometimes patients may benefit greatly from contact and advice from someone who has been there as well as encouragement to attend support groups after surgery. Support Partners are a great comfort for patients who do not have family or other support in the post operative period. When available, Support Partner volunteers may also visit patients while in the hospital and provide encouragement. Individuals who are identified in the office or while in-patient as having little or no support system will have the opportunity to sign up for the Bariatric Support Partner program. Support Partner volunteers must be at least one year out from surgery prior to submitting application.
The Ambassador program is another volunteer opportunity for former patients of Dr. Boyce and Dr. Williams who have lost weight through the New Life program and want to continue sharing positive experiences after bariatric surgery. Ambassadors visit and work with people outside of the hospital setting and are able to explain how the programs are organized and implemented. They may be called upon to speak at weight loss surgery seminars, provide testimonials at support group meetings, and staff community education events.
