Life is About Choices
I find myself telling patients this quite often, life is all about choices. Everyday we have lots of choices. We can wake up in the morning and say “This is going to be a terrible day!” and chances are it will be, or we can wake up and say “Today is going to be a great day or just a good day!” Chances are it will be. As a bariatric patient you have already made a choice to be healthy and taken steps towards that.
As we move into the Christmas season, the choices we make are more and more challenging. Everywhere you turn there is food. We live in a food saturated world. To a post bariatric patient this can be overwhelming at times. I am here to tell you, you are not alone. There are a lot of people who feel overwhelmed this time of year, bariatric surgery patient or not.
The Holidays are often a time of stress for lots of people. The good news is we no longer have to turn to food for comfort. If all of the food becomes too much, then remove yourself from that area. In the event that you do over indulge, do not beat yourself up too much. Tomorrow is a new day and a new opportunity to make new choices. Go for a walk instead of eating or snacking. One good tip is never go to a gathering hungry or empty handed. Take a protein shake with you. While everyone else is drinking calorie ridden punch, you can drink a protein shake and be much better off.
Everyday is a choice. I am so glad I chose bariatric surgery. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I am going into this Christmas season forty-two pounds lighter, much less than I’ve been in years. But, more than that is my mental outlook on life. I feel so good. My family and I are so blessed this Christmas season with blessings that money can’t buy. We are rich with family, health, and a love that all the money in the world can’t account for. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!
Till next time!
